APPRENTICESHIP overview

Pre-Apprenticeship Details
  • 4-Week pre-apprenticeship training, followed by employer interviews
  • No experience required
  • 5-20 hr per week training commitment*
  • Live video sessions held Mon/Wed/Thurs 6:30-8pm EST
  • *Prior technical knowledge* (hardware focused) can reduce weekly training time to ~5hrs
Curriculum

Pre-Apprenticeship: ITIL, Customer Support, Growth Mindset

Apprenticeship Year 1: Tech Admin

Apprenticeship Year 2: Specialized based on role interest and opportunity

Apprenticeship Details
  • Full-time, 40hr employment, Monday-Friday
  • Location: In-office
  • Apprenticeship coaching, mentoring and expert facilitation 2-3 nights per week
  • Additional apprenticeship work (totaling ~10hrs per week)
Year 1
  • Working full-time, in-office as a Tech Admin
  • Apprenticeship coursework focused on foundational IT skills and knowledge
  • Cohort-based experience
Year 2

The Year 1 Apprenticeship goal is to position you for career growth based on your interest, role availability and ability to transition internally.

Depending on your situation, Year 2 can look differently but will typically fall within these 3 experiences after completing the Year 1 apprenticeship:

  1. You maintain your employment as a Tech Admin II and continue to seek internal advancement. You would not start a Year 2 apprenticeship at that time.
  2. You are promoted to a Tech Admin III and may have the opportunity to complete a Year 2 Apprenticeship while in this advanced role.
  3. You are promoted to an Associate level role in a specialized technical function and may have the opportunity to complete a Year 2 Apprenticeship while in this advanced role.
Eligibility & Exclusions

Applicants must meet the below criteria to be considered: 

  • Must have US Work Authorization (unfortunately we cannot Sponsor)
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Must have reliable transportation to work in-office
  • Must have a high school diploma and/or associate degree as your highest education credential received.* This typically means fewer than 120 college credits earned.

*Our apprenticeship is designed to provide a pathway to a successful tech career where opportunities traditionally do not exist. Therefore, we must insist that all applicants have not yet completed their Bachelor’s degree.

The role: Tech Admin APPRENTICE

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities will vary based on individual role. These may include, but are not limited to:

  • Resolving end user issues with PC hardware and desktop requests and technology issues, including managing customer expectations for resolution; owning escalation of issues to other teams that cannot be resolved; Using business judgment and understanding of firm technology to advise end users on how to use technology tools to solve business problems.
  • Teaching end users how to better use technology, including sharing best practices, tech hacks, and communicating technical information to end users at varying skill levels.
  • Independently applying advanced technical troubleshooting skills, outside of documented processes, to resolve end user issues.
  • Keeping IT ticketing management system updated.
  • Identifying and delivering continuous process improvements for positive end user experience through process simplification, automation and issue elimination.
  • Imaging and deploying PCs and technology peripherals to end users in the office and remotely.
  • Analyzing data analytics to detect patterns in tech support issues and sharing findings.

AM I GUARANTEED A JOB AFTER THE PRE-EMPLOYMENT BOOTCAMP?

No. We will arrange a priority interview with a partner company if you complete the Pre-Employment Bootcamp in good standing but cannot guarantee that you receive a job offer.

HOW MUCH DOES THE PROGRAM COST?
All New Apprenticeship Pre-Apprenticeship and Apprenticeship Programs are brought to you at no cost by our grant partners not limited to the Department of Labor, Workforce Boards, and Employers. By entering the program, you acknowledge and agree to complete and submit documentation and comply with the requirements for eligibility.

DOES THE APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM REQUIRE AN IN-PERSON TRAINING?
All training, coaching and mentoring provided by New Apprenticeship is remote, however, your employer may require you to work in-office upon acceptance of a full-time job.
DO I NEED ANY PRIOR SKILLS OR EXPERIENCE TO BE ACCEPTED INTO THE PROGRAM?

You will be required to have a general aptitude for technical administration. Other ideal skills include:

Do I need to pay for certifications throughout the program?
All Apprentices who choose to pursue certifications during the 12-month apprenticeship can do so at no cost for the first exam. If do not pass and wish to retake an exam during the 12-month apprenticeship, please note that NEW will contribute $50 for any the first retake. Any additional test costs will be the responsibility of the apprentice.

Pre-employment bootcamp participants (Learners) will be provided course material to prepare for certifications at no cost as part of the program, however, NEW will not provide exam vouchers or financial contribution towards exam fees, except for in the cases below:

  • Participants in the ITSN bootcamp have the option to take the ServiceNow Certified Systems Administrator (CSA) exam at no cost during bootcamp if they meet certain outlined criteria. In addition, NEW will also contribute $50 one additional retake of the CSA.
  • Pre-employment bootcamp participants (Learners) that have received grant funding will receive financial contribution to cover full certification cost of the initial test, as well as $50 towards only the first retake, (if necessary).
Is there a penalty if I don't complete the apprenticeship?

There is no financial penalty. However, the apprenticeship is tied to the job, so failure to fulfill those requirements may lead to termination of employment.
